Mike Sexton
One of poker’s top commentators, Mike Sexton loves bringing poker to the masses. Though he has a history as a paratrooper and a salesman, Mike began pursuing his own professional poker career at Ohio State University where he attended on a gymnastics scholarship. His travels soon made him a poker champion in Europe where he started the “Tournament of Champions of Poker.” Steve Lipscomb filmed that tournament and Mike provided his own commentary to the broadcasts. Later when Steve started work on the WPT, he invited Mike to be a commentator. He jumped at the chance. But does anyone furnish his lines to him? “No—they just turn Vince and me loose and tell us to keep talking,” he says. Though he admits the commentary is edited to keep the WPT “educational and entertaining for players of all levels.”
In 2009 Sexton was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame. Although he is most know for his poker game commentary, he does play quit a bit and has earned over $1.5 million in live tournament winnings.
