Evelyn Ng
By the age of 14, Evelyn Ng was playing pool for money at the local pool halls in her home town of Toronto, and by the age of 17 she was dealing and playing poker in various establishments. She soon met another native of Toronto, Daniel Negreanu, who tutored her and helped her hone her poker skills. After Evelyn’s first visit to Las Vegas at the age of 21, she decided that she wanted to pursue the ‘poker life’. She took jobs dealing in casinos and she credits this experience for teaching her the abilities to read people and identify tells.
Evelyn Ng had not played much in the way of tournaments, sticking mainly to cash games, but in 2003 she entered the WPT Ladies Night event and placed second against the top women players in the world, such as Annie Duke and Jennifer Harman. This seemed to inspire her and she went on to place 11th at the 2005 Borgata Poker Open and made the final table at the Calvin Ayre Wild Card Poker Tournament in 2006.
